We are trying to gather funds for Durga Raghavendra Manepalli (19 Year old) who is suffering with Muscular Dystrophy Limb-Girdle. Your gracious donations will help to support her treatment.
In a rare and difficult medical occurrence, three siblings from the same family—Hari Surya (21), Durga Raghavendra (19), and Siri (17)—have all been diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type R1 (LGMDR1). This is a progressive genetic condition caused by a mutation in the CAPN3 gene, which leads to the gradual wasting of the muscles in the hips, shoulders, and limbs.
Current Status
The siblings are at varying stages of the condition:
• Hari Surya, the eldest, has shown the most advanced progression and now requires significant mobility support.
• Durga Raghavendra and Siri are currently ambulatory but face daily struggles with balance, climbing stairs, and frequent falls.
Without a current permanent cure, their medical management relies on intensive neuro-physiotherapy, specialized antioxidants, and mobility aids to slow the progression and prevent joint contractures.
Defying the Diagnosis: The Pursuit of Education
What makes this family's story truly remarkable is their refusal to let their physical limitations define their futures. Despite the increasing difficulty of navigating college campuses and the physical exhaustion that comes with the condition, all three are excelling in higher education:
• Hari Surya is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.), demonstrating incredible mental fortitude as he manages his studies alongside his mobility challenges.
• Durga Raghavendra and Siri have both chosen the rigorous path of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), proving that their intellectual ambitions remain untouched by their genetic diagnosis.
The Goal of GMM Trust
The GMM Trust aims to provide the critical financial bridge these siblings need. Our support will focus on:
1. Life-Saving Physiotherapy: Ensuring they receive consistent, professional care to keep them mobile and independent for as long as possible.
2. Mobility Aids: Providing high-quality orthotics and electric wheelchairs to ensure they can continue attending their college classes.
3. Medical Nutrition: Supporting their health with the necessary supplements to manage high muscle-breakdown levels (CPK).
GMM Trust will help Durga Raghavendra Manepalli to achieve this medical funding. All the donations to the GMM Trust will be utilized for the patient's medical expenses and we are building the website gmmtrust.org to help people like Durga Raghavendra Manepalli to meet their medical needs. The website will air on March 15th 2023 and will be a platform where all the donations are publicly disclosed and the donors can also request a video call from the suffering families to interact and shine them with some hope.
Your kindness extends beyond financial help. If you wish to comfort or encourage a patient, we can facilitate a supervised phone call. This is a unique opportunity to share hope and confirm that your contribution is bringing tangible relief and positivity to their lives.
Bring light, relief, and hope to a suffering Durga Raghavendra Manepalli with your donation.
